I love my faith, I love my kids and I love my family. I enjoy simple things like cooking asian foods like beef and brocoli, mexican dishes like enchiladas, grilling burgers and Italian sausages, and I can occasionally cook a few gourmet dishes like this creamy potato soup dish.
My days are filled with the responsibilities of being a small business owner, of which I’m very proud and happy. When I’m not working you’ll find me spending time with my girls, Kristen, Lindsey, Maddy and Veronica, out-numbered of course but I love it too!! Thankfully our Cocker Spaniel/Yorkie dog Boomer balances us pretty well!
Photography
Began one day with me very serendipitous as we were shopping in the mall. I was looking to purchase a new point and shoot camera, I wanted to capture the great moments of our home life and it was very evident to me after seeing all the cameras the SLRs were the toys as I was most interested in. Interestingly this is how my love for photography was rekindled!! The camera I purchased that day propelled me to dig further without intending too and before I knew it I was passionate about learning photography from every place possible. Back then, the educational mediums consisted of print magazine, workshops from famous photographers and the annual WPPI and PPA conference gatherings. I was influenced by photographers like Bambi Cantrell, Dennis Reggie, Gary Fong, and many others. We also had plans to use the equipment while in our travels to Cabo San Lucas, Jamaica, Cancun and Hawaii. Breaking into Wedding Photography in those days was no easy task, it was a tightly knit industry where simple things as camera settings and the equipment every one use were guarded which made it harder to break into wedding photography and certainly harder than the way things are are today which I think it’s a good thing. But persistance pays off, where there is a will there’s a way right and when all doors are closed you knock and you keep on knocking right, that’s what we’re all taught. Well I prepared to know my camera inside and out and as intimately as my wife, you get the idea. I got my first break while working at The Walt Disney Company in Burbank when a colleague of mine was getting married, she had already hired a pro but she knew about my passion and love for photography and invited me to come along. That was my old friend Monica Tello, we keep in touch on Facebook. But the doors wouldn’t be busted just yet but it was a huge step forward in gearing me up into making photography a career. It would take many more friendships and a lot of networking to just get my foot in the door of the business aspect of the industry. Today, I can seriously give thanks for the blessing of photography after 12 years of photographing weddings. It truly satisfies my life, there’s never a dull moment, my tasks on the back end of things are constantly challenging and I think that’s one of the aspects I love the most about photograph, the challenge of it all. Anytime I’m asked if I would recommend this for anyone, my answer is always a yes but it’s not an easy career path, it’s not for the faint of heart, but if you work hard without any supervision, I highly recommend this path for anyone.
My Equipment
My current line up of equipment are Canon cameras, the 5D Mark II and 7ds respectively. My line up lenses include 35mm 1.4, 70-200 2.8 IS, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8, 580EX and 550EX, Alien Bee flashes, Radio Popper Flash Triggers, Apple Computers, Adobe Photoshop & Lightroom for editing , Kata Wheel bag. The industry is currently in the midst of sorting out the hybrid concepts of video and stills and this yet again promises a new direction in the ever changing industry of photography. I love it!! Love my life, love Photography!
